June 28th Updates

Good morning Erie Marathon @ Presque Isle Participant, June 28, 2013

If you have run with us in recent years, you know what you are in for come September 15th – an event that tries to give you the opportunity to do your best out on the road on a fast, flat, mostly shaded course with aid stations nearly every mile. We haven’t realized yet that we can’t satisfy everybody so we keep trying, and make small changes to improve your overall experience here in Erie.
If this event is a new experience for you, it is probably because of many of our prior year runners spreading the word of their experience in Erie. Or maybe because of the write up in Runners World (May 2013) listing us as the 5th fastest marathon in the world. With registrations trending up 50+% this year, we are likely to have a lot of folks that are new to the Erie Marathon –welcome to Erie! You will find our running family of regulars and volunteer family here to be friendly and supportive to help make your experience in Erie one to remember.
Whatever the reason is that you are joining us, we are happy that you have chosen Erie as your late summer race and we will do everything possible to make it a race to remember. You can find all of the information you need to know about your race on our website: www.Eriemarathon.org . However, if you are still missing that critical piece of information, you can always reach out to us at: Eriemara@Gmail.com. We are about to launch a new and improved website that will make finding that needed bit of information regarding the Erie marathon easier to find. We also recently released a new FaceBook page for Erie Marathon.
For those of you that like stats and details, here is a look at 2013 so far:
  • Females continue to lead registrations at 55% of the field
  • The Canadians are standing strong with the most entrants by city for cities outside of PA: 4 cities in the top 5 and 5 in the top 10 cities.
  • 34 USA states represented so far – can we beat last year’s total of 40 states?
  • The top states with registration are: PA, OH and NY. Would you believe the next three states would be: VA, MD and MA? Yes, MA standing strong at #6 for entrants.
  • And the metro area with the largest representation at 23% of registrations is Pittsburgh, PA.
A big thank you goes out to all of those who added a donation to their registration fees when registering.
One of our sponsors, Panera Bread, is sponsoring the Panerathon which is a 2Mile/10K race through a unique course in downtown Youngstown, Ohio, with all proceeds to benefit the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Registration and information can be found at panerathon.org
Thanks for your past and current support of us helping local charities,
Jan and Mike
